Equilibration
time is the time required for the distillation equipment to separate the components of a mixture,
before removal of the distillate is begun. This is achieved with the
distillation equipment in total reflux and occasionally takes hours depending on the characteristics of the
compound being separated.
Separations of components that boil far apart require little or no
equilibration time. Separation of close boiling materials requires
longer equilibration times.
The M690 microprocessor allows the
equilibration time to be preprogrammed for each solvent recycling
protocol. When boil-up (when vapor first reach the top (head) of the
distillation column) is detected the microprocessor automatically starts
to count down the programmed equilibration time. When the
equilibration time is finished, the reflux valve will begin to operate and
the first fraction (cut) will start to be collected.
